It’s almost Mother’s Day! What do we do on Mother’s day? We bombard moms with gifts not even a mother could love and make messes she’ll probably have to clean up. A “mom’s day out” is only a gift if she doesn’t have to come home to a grumpy husband and a destroyed house, am I right? So. Let’s talk about some Mother’s Day gifts she won’t have to pretend to like.
A clean car.
Easy, pretty much free, and sooooo nice. Wash the outside AND the inside until mom’s chariot is shiny and spotless.
A gym membership.
Careful with this. This is only a great Mother’s Day gift for a mom who is actively trying to exercise but having a tough time balancing kids and workouts. Please don’t gift someone a gym membership with the hope of motivating them to exercise. That’s pretty much the worst idea ever. Most gyms have “family” plans that include a couple hours of childcare each day, so Mom can workout, shower, and enjoy the rest of the day with the kiddos.
Amazon Prime and an Amazon Echo
For the SAHM/household manager with multiple children, a Prime membership and an Amazon echo device make a life-altering pair. Moms around the word are frolicking around their houses yelling, “Alexa, order more toilet paper!” That may sound crazy to you, but to a busy mom it sounds a-maz-ing. Plus, it’s not all about buying stuff. An Amazon echo can also set timers and manage to-do lists via voice command, so it really helps lessen the mental load so many moms struggle with.

No mom should have to live without a Keurig machine. Just saying.
Two sugars and one GI Joe is NOT how most moms like their coffee, so mugs with lids are everything. Added bonus? That coffee will stay hot for the several hours that go by before she gets a chance to drink it.
There is nothing wrong with a DIY Mother’s Day gift. Just make sure it’s not made out of macaroni. A photo clock that commemorates a special time between a mom and her family is a pretty sweet gift. I made the clock pictured for my Dad on Father’s Day. (He’s taking my twins on their first wilderness hike in this photo.) Let’s just say there were some tears. Here are the detailed photo-to-wood transfer clock instructions. And yes, the instructions are free!
There is NOTHING wrong with a mom living in her slippers. Shoes are for the weak. The only downside is regular slippers tend to wear out quickly if you wear them, you know, always. Wicked good slippers, however, are not regular slippers.
You know why. Don’t pretend. Add some spice to this Mother’s Day gift with a customized label.
There! This is a pretty decent list of mother’s day gifts she won’t have to pretend to like. Did I miss something? Let me know in the comments!
